Got the idea for this fictional story as I traveled across the empty spaces of Australia and picked up a hitchhiker who claimed to be a prophet.
How To Disappear Completely eBook Ryan Tran
I got this short story for free, so I will be kind. The story opens with the description of a dream, a strange dream.
Then the scene changes to the dry, arid outback of the Western Australian coast where the main character (the dreamer) is driving inland in a car without air-conditioning. He (the dreamer) picks up a hitch-hiker (an Aboriginal female) who reads his palm. After telling him (the dreamer) an abbreviated version of what she (the hitch-hiker) had "seen," she asks to be dropped off at the nearest intersection - in the middle of nowhere, on the opposite side of the road. A large truck traveling fast speeds through the intersection without stopping. When it passes the hitch-hiker has vanished, forgetting her suitcase in the dreamer''s backseat. The dream gets out and opens the suitcase and finds a heavy piece of Aboriginal rock art. He runs his hand over the rock art and faints awakening in the past just before he made the decision to travel to
Australia. Then, the story just ends.
I had a hard time getting "into the story," maybe it was the description of how hot and windy it was and next to no scenery to describe in this almost barren desert.
If you like to read about dreams, palm reading, deserts, Australia, or (briefly) time travel you might enjoy this story. I would not recommend this story to younger readers because I think they would give up before finishing the first page or two.
I rated this story at 3 stars because I think it has potential for further development that could make this a 5 star work.
